Here I cover the conversion of my 408W from an Edelbrock carburetor to a Mass-Flo electronic fuel injection system.
The next step was to remove the current intake manifold and carburetor. I'm going to assume you already know how to remove an intake manifold, but for those that may not I'll sum it up briefly.
First we drain the radiator.
Then we remove the fuel line, vacuum line(s), throttle cable, breather tube, and any connections to the carb.
Then you remove the temperature sending unit and upper radiator hose.
Then you can remove the intake manifold bolts, and lift the intake and carburetor out as one unit.
If the intake sticks I'll pry gently between the front of the block and intake just behind the distributor.
This will usually break it free.
Once the old intake is removed you have to clean all mating surfaces of old gasket material. Place some rags into the intake valley to prevent debris from falling into the engine. I place towels in the openings of the intake manifold to keep debris out of the engine.
Then you can place the new intake manifold gaskets into place and run a heavy bead, apprx. 3/8", of sensor safe RTV silicone along the end rails. DO NOT use the supplied end rail gaskets. They squeeze out and leak terribly. Drop the new intake manifold in place and torque the bolts down in the standard intake manifold sequence using the specs provided by the manufacturer.
The next thing you have to do is determine which way you're going to install the throttle body, as this determines which of the holes in the intake runner gets plugged. If you're throttle cable is on the drivers side, like mine, then you install the 3/8" NPT plug in the #8 runner. If it's on the passenger side, you install the plug in the #1 runner, and vice versa for the intake charger temperature sensor. That sensor installed in the #1 runner on my setup, as I have the throttle cable on the drivers side. Then you can mount the throttle body with the gasket and hardware provided. Don't forget to use the throttle bracket provided with the kit. It installs under the head of the throttle body mounting bolt. In my case the drivers side rear bolt. Also you can install the coolant temperature sensor in the drivers side hole in the intakes front water jacket.
